“Upgrading” to Kubuntu 11.10

After i downloaded the Kubuntu 11.10 .iso file and made a startup pendrive with it. I thought when i would boot with it, it would offer me an “Upgrade” option like Ubuntu does but it didn’t. I installed afresh and overwrite onto my existing installation.

After the installation completed, i noticed my desktop remained almost the same. I opened my torrent client and all my torrents continued to download normally.
All my installed programs were gone though. However their data files were still present. After i re-installed them, they continued working as before. The mail client was not working at all. It would just crash just after i launch it.
My sound was not working sometimes. The desktop would crash often.
I decided finally to wipe my linux partition and install afresh.

I just discovered the Netbook Desktop. So far, i’m enjoying it. Here’s a screeny!

  1. I guess that I am not ready to leave my windows os. I always install Kubuntu and after a few days of use, I find it normal to select “Windows” from the boot menu. I keep doing this until I decide to reformat everything and put only windows because I was annoyed at having to select the os each time 😛

  2. Well, what makes you stick to windows so much? Are you into gaming?

There is a way to make Windows first in the boot list. They did it at UoM. There must be some guide somewhere.
