Is it worth to get mobile internet in Mauritius?

I’m really enjoying my Android phone at home using internet from the Orange livebox.

A mobile phone is supposed to be used outdoors. I know Emtel is the best when coming to mobile internet due to both their technologies and tariffs (haven’t inquired about MTML services yet). Anyways, when you buy a new phone, you are gifted with either Emtel or Orange sims.

Now, i have to see if the move to Emtel is really profitable. I don’t know how much data Androids eat normally. Emtel might be cheaper but to what extent will it be cheap?

I’ve enabled:-

Google: Contacts, gmail, Calendar
Facebook: Contacts, Status updates of my contacts, Calender
Twitter: Contacts , Tweets of my contacts.
Wordpress: Comments notifications.

I wonder what would happen if i would be on a paid data plan.

Maybe i can just forget about getting mobile internet and hope WiFi will be made available around the country. The University of Mauritius has already implemented WiFi on it’s campus and I’ve heard that municipalities also provide it to the public.

For now, i’m putting my phone on 2G mode to save energy 🙂

Browsing your Android Phone through Bluetooth

My Android phone was sucessfully paired with my KDE desktop without any issues. While browsing the device through bluetooth, only folder names were visible. I couldn’t create new folders too. However, When i’d drag my data/music into it, the files would get transfered and is visible from the phone.

I opened the the Android file manager, went to the SD card directory, properties then Bluetooth Visibility.

Then the files which are to be made visible have to be checked ONE BY ONE!

This really sucks. Is there a way to make a whole directory visible to bluetooth by default? Please let me know in the comment section 😉

Kubuntu 12.04 released. Upgrade or Install afresh?

I am very impatient to test the new Kubuntu 12.04 which is a Long Term Release version i.e. it will be supported for 5 years. It is supposed to be hyper stable 🙂

However, i haven’t taken the decision whether to upgrade my current Kubuntu or to wipe my partition and install afresh. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, we can’t download the .iso file and upgrade from it offline as it tried when upgrading to Kubuntu 11.10. They really need to add this option in Kubuntu installation (or maybe they did it already in this version?).

Anyways, i am very busy this week as i have exams starting soon. I don’t think i’ll be able to afford to wipe my current installation and reconfigure it as awesome as it is now:-

I think i’ll upgrade to Kubuntu 12.04 from the software center for now and later when my exams finish, i’ll do a fresh install.
