Rs 1333: The Amount of Money Mauritian Car Owners Lost

I’m a poor guy. I buy the cheapest car insurance i.e. Third Party cover at Rs 4,500 per year. I pay Road Tax on a yearly basis at Rs 3500. That makes a total of Rs 8000 I have to pay just for the papers to keep my car road legal.

During the government imposed lock-down due to Covid-19, all our cars, except for essential service workers’, were parked. It stayed so for 2 months. If we were to put a number on it, we paid Rs 1,333 for nothing.

Rs 8000 / 12 months * 2 months = Rs 1,333

Now if you have Premium Insurance policies, this amount will be much higher. My car’s insurance and Road Tax expired in March 2020. Today I got them renewed. No free months given 🙁

Should we fight to get this money back in some form or another or it’s not worth it?

For the rich, Rs 1,333 is nothing.
 
For someone with minimum salary, that’s 13% of his salary being given away.

Was Corona Virus predicted in these PS4 games?

Amidst the corona virus lockdown, I’ve been playing games on my PlayStation 4 after “work from home”. If I were to believe in conspiracy theories, I could have easily said that the corona virus’s COVID-19  was predicted in these games: Life is Strange: Season 2 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. LOL xD

The effects of the confinement is starting to affect my morale now. Getting a huge burnout. Next I’ll be playing Ex-Deus: Mankind Divided and continuing Life is strange in parallel. Hope my brain will come back to me. How are you dealing with the confinement?

Playing with Mouse and Keyboard on the PlayStation 4

Why? Because my DualShock 4 seems to be on the verge of breaking. At first, it would refuse to stay in an OFF state. Today, while playing Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain, my R1 button remained in a pressed state. After pressing the button hard a few times, it seems to have returned to normal. But till when?

Let’s try the MK220 Wireless Mouse and Keyboard from Logitech.

I tried loading MGS V. Mouse and Keyboard Not Detected 🙁

Next I tried War Thunder, which is basically a PC game ported in PS4. The menu and cursor were fully functional with Mouse and Keyboard combo but in the battle, only the mouse can be used to point and left click to shoot. Moving the tank or zooming in was not possible.

Next I tried War Face. Mouse and Keyboard was useless for both the menu and game-play.

Welcome to #LockDownMauritius #Coronavirus

Mauritius have been locked down due to Corona-virus since 3 days. What are Mauritians feeling? Following numerous posts on Facebook, Mauritians are blaming the Prime Minister for not-closing the Mauritian border early enough. We, the common people, will not know the rationale behind the Prime Minister’s decision.

Other Mauritians are complaining about Mauritians not abiding by the lock-down rules: Photos at the supermarket show people queuing in close proximity to each other so as not to die from starvation. Can they be blamed for panic buying though?

Our ministers were boasting quite loudly that there were NO CASES of Covid-19 in Mauritius. I even believed them.

But there were! And the government even arrested the Administrator of a fake news Facebook page for spreading fake news. Who will arrest the Mauritian ministers for spreading fake news?

Fortunately, all the Internet Service providers have increased their data allowances so that Mauritians won’t be too bored at home. Playing video games, watching TV shows are a very popular activity. Other’s prefer reading books or trying new recipes. But the most popular activity seems to be forced house cleaning! How are you handling the situation?

Getting Charged Twice on the Debit Card at Curepipe

After the guy refueled my car, it’s time for payment. As usual, i pay by my debit card. I entered my PIN on his wireless machine and hand it over to the guy. Dude says please reenter my PIN because the transaction failed and I did. And I saw the machine says: “Printing Err”. I told the guy no! It’s your machine which is not printing. I open my Juice app by MCB. And I see that 2 transaction happened each deducting Rs 1000.

 

Fortunately, the guy did some thing on the machine and refunded me Rs 1000 in cash. The machine actually started printing.

 

The purpose of this article is to educate my fellow friends about issues that can happen while using your debit card. It’s always good to have mobile banking facilities so as you can take actions immediately. If you’d rely on your bi-yearly statement to detect this, well, Good luck with that! Stay safe.
